Understanding and Managing Blood Pressure

Blood pressure is the measure of how hard your blood is pushing against the inside of your arteries. Diastolic pressure is the pressure of the blood between heartbeats when the heart is at rest. It is simply designed to help in the understanding of the heart and heart disease, and not as a diagnostic or therapeutic aid. You should seek prompt medical care for any specific health issues. Researchers analyzed data from 3,300 subject from the Dallas Heart Study, about half of whom were African American. The results showed the amount of potassium in urine samples was strongly related to blood pressure.

Excess weight adds to strain on the heart. In some cases, weight loss may be the only treatment needed. High blood pressure puts a strain on blood vessels throughout your body and increases the workload on the heart. The result is that one or both of those numbers is higher than it should be. A technician puts small metal disks—electrodes—on your skin to read the pattern of electrical impulses from your heart. The test only takes a few minutes.

However, over time, uncontrolled high blood pressure causes significant damage to important organs including the heart, kidneys, brain, and eyes. In a number of cases, this damage can lead to death.

It turned out to cause nearly as many bleeding ulcers as other arthritis drugs, and many more heart attacks. There are no scientific trials in people gauging how well nebivolol works in, say, black patients with CHF, compared with other beta blockers. Cigarette smoking alone increases the risk of coronary heart diseases by itself, but it is helped by other factors it greatly increases risks. Smoking increase blood pressure, decreases exercise tolerance and increases the tendency for blood to clot. Elevated blood pressure is a leading risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Patients with mood disorders were not at higher risk of hypertension.
